چکیده

The main drawback of minimum variance distortionless response (MVDR) beamformer is the cancellation of the desired speech signal and its degradation in multi-path wave propagation environment. To make the adaptive algorithm robust against room reverberation and to prevent desired signal cancellation an estimation of unknown desired speaker's transfer function was proposed. The estimation is based on the signal and the interference covariance matrices. The estimated transfer function is then applied to the MVDR beamformer. The proposed algorithm was tested on a simulated room with reverberation. The results showed better quality of the restored speech compared to some typical adaptive algorithms.

I INTRODUCTION Microphone arrays are powerful tool for the acoustic interference suppression. They usually utilize adaptive algorithm that adapts its beam pattern so to maximally suppress interferences, having unity gain for the desired signal. Its weightings are usually estimated applying minimum variance (MV) criterion utilizing one of the two beamformer types: Frost's beamformer [1] or gener...

Adaptive Microphone Arrays for Noise Suppression in the Frequency Domain

Several methods for adaptive multichannel noise suppression of speech signals are compared. A modified weighting function is proposed to reduce linear distortions of the desired signal which may be introduced by the postprocessing system component. Experimental results using an array of four microphones placed at the corners of a PC monitor show a good agreement between theory and experiment. I...

An Adaptive Microphone Array for Hands–Free Communication

In this paper we present an adaptive microphone array to suppress coherent as well as incoherent noise in disturbed speech signals. We use a generalized sidelobe cancelling (GSC) structure implemented in the frequency domain, because it allows a separate handling of determining the adaptive look direction response to suppress incoherent noise and adjusting the adaptive filters for cancellation ...

Interface for Barge-in Free Spoken Dialogue System Combining Adaptive Sound Field Control and Microphone Array

This paper describes a new interface for a barge-in free spoken dialogue system combining an adaptive sound field control and a microphone array. In order to actualize robustness against the change of transfer functions due to the various interferences, the barge-in free spoken dialogue system which uses sound field control and a microphone array has been proposed by one of the authors. However...

An Approach to Prevent Adaptive Beamformers from Cancelling

Under real conditions, severe signal cancellation often occurs in adaptive beamformers because of reverberation, microphone transfer function mismatch or steering vector error. Therefore, usually voice activity information is necessary to pause the beamformer update during the speech activity. However, this information is not available or not sufficiently accurate in most applications. Here we ...
